Agago Chief Magistrate Trains Local Council Court Committees to Enhance Access to Justice
The Chief Magistrate of Agago, HW Betty Ajok, yesterday conducted a training session for members of Sub-county and Town Council Court Committees in Agago District aimed at strengthening the administration of justice at the grassroots level.
The training brought together 80 Court Committee members drawn from 16 sub-counties and town councils across the district.
HW Ajok guided participants on the composition, jurisdiction and quorum requirements of Local Council Courts, the appeal process, and the supervisory powers of the Chief Magistrate over Local Council Courts. The session sought to enhance the capacity of committee members to effectively discharge their responsibilities in accordance with the law.
At the conclusion of the training, participants were provided with reference materials, including copies of the Local Council Courts Act and the Local Council Courts Regulations, in response to concerns raised by committee members regarding the lack of legal reference books to facilitate their work.
The committee members welcomed the initiative and requested that similar trainings be extended to members of Local Council I and Local Council II Courts to further strengthen access to justice and improve dispute resolution mechanisms at the community level.
